The former international player Cosmin Contra says he is affected by the disrespect he is treated with in Romania and he says he is much more appreciated abroad than in the country for whose national team he evolved 72 times.
"As a human I felt humiliated in Romania. I have never been appreciated for what I had done, but I am used with this. Although I have more than 70 matches at the national team, my work was not appreciated. Maybe I disturbed as person or as image, I don’t know exactly. If I had been a trouble-making player, I don’t think I would have been loved and appreciated as it happens in other countries.
For example, at Milano I am loved more than in Romania, although I have played there for one year only. Let me give you an example. Before the match AC Milan - Real Madrid Adriano Galliani called me and invited me to see the match from the stands. I watched the match from the „official" near him and other important names in football.
If I hadn’t been respected they wouldn’t have called there. Furthermore, few days ago I was at a match „Old-boys" where i played with Maldini, Papin, Costacurta, against Zidane and other former great football players from Real Madrid", said Contra in Adevărul.
